Annex II contains information on developments in the situations of Mr. Manouchehr Bakhtiari and of family members of journalists of the British Broadcasting Corporation Persian service. Iraq 80. The Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq documented incidents of online intimidation of civil society representatives by unidentified actors, including for participating in United Nations events. Names and details of those concerned have been withheld due to fear of further reprisals. The Human Rights Office also documented increased governmental restrictions on civil society organizations supporting women’s empowerment and gender equality, including those engaging with the United Nations. Israel 81. Annex II contains information on developments in the case of the designation as “terror organizations” of the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, Al-Haq, the Bisan Center for Research and Development and its staff, Defense for Children International – Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees and the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees and its staff, as well as on the situation of Mr. Issa Amro. Libya 82. The Human Rights, Transitional Justice and Rule of Law Division of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) documented incidents of reprisal against human rights and political activists for their cooperation with the United Nations. UNSMIL also documented fear of reprisals by women human rights defenders for engaging or attempting to engage with the United Nations. Names and details are withheld due to fear of further reprisals. 83. Representatives of Libyan-based organizations cancelled their participation in a round table hosted by the Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association in Geneva in February 2024 due to fear of reprisals following an online campaign against the event and those attending. 84. Annex II contains information on the impacts of the requirements imposed upon civil society organizations regarding their ability to engage with the United Nations in the field of human rights. Nicaragua 85. Mr. Brooklyn Rivera, an Indigenous leader and, at the time, Deputy of the National Assembly for the YATAMA political party, was not allowed to return to Nicaragua following his participation in 2023 in the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Mr. Rivera returned to the country clandestinely and, on 29 September 2023, was arbitrarily arrested and has since then been held without charges or contact with his relatives, and the authorities have not officially acknowledged his imprisonment.36 86. In April 2024, Ms. Tininiska Rivera Castellón, the daughter of Mr. Rivera and an Indigenous woman human rights defender, said in her statement to the Permanent Forum that she had received threats during the Forum.
