On 9 September 2022, in its concluding observations on the combined second and third periodic reports of China, the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities expressed concern about reports of reprisals against human rights defenders and civil society organizations for their work on disability rights, in particular for their cooperation with the United Nations. The Committee urged the State party to ensure that persons with disabilities are able to enjoy the right to freedom of expression and opinion, including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas, including in their cooperation with the United Nations (CRPD/C/CHN/CO/2-3, paras. 44–45).

  1. On 28 July 2023, the Government responded to the note verbale sent in connection to the present report noting that the State respects and safeguards human rights and protects, in accordance with the law, routine exchanges and cooperation with the United Nations. The Government denied allegations of reprisals against those who cooperate with United Nations human rights mechanisms and opposed the use of what it characterized as false allegations of so-called reprisals as a pretext to interfere with judicial processes.
